The Slash 2WD is a powerful off-road RC truck from Traxxas. When it was first introduced, it began a completely new category of remote controlled cars: the short-course race truck. The design of the Slash has remained largely the same, and it can no longer compete with the more modern designs for serious racing. However, if you're just looking to have some fun, the Slash is one of the best RC cars you can get. Its durability, reparability and incredibly fun design make the Traxxas Slash a great remote controlled car.
This is a high-performance RC truck designed for off-road use or racing around a dirt track. As a full-suspension vehicle, the Slash has no problem absorbing bumps and jolts as it speeds along at close to 30 mph. This suspension also makes it great at handling jumps and ramps.
Unlike more speed-oriented race trucks, the Slash has surprisingly high clearance for its class. This allows it to go off road more effectively with a lower chance of getting high-centered on large obstacles. However, it's important to note that on a course, this higher center of gravity makes it slightly less stable than other radio controlled cars.
An included seven-cell NiMH battery powers the Slash. In case one battery isn't enough, compatible battery packs are available from Traxxas or your local hobby shop.
The Traxxas Slash 2WD comes ready to run, with no additional assembly needed. All you have to do is remove the packaging and charge its seven-cell NiMH battery and you're ready to get launching off ramps, doing donuts or bashing in off-road terrain.
In order to withstand such abuse, the Slash is well made, with durable plastic parts, metal gears and waterproof housings for its vital components. In fact, the Slash is fully waterproof, so it can charge through puddles or launching off ramps in the snow. Aside from water protection, these housings also protect the engine and transmission from the sand and grit that is often detrimental to moving parts.
The 2.2-inch tires on the Slash are designed specifically for racing in the dirt, and this is where they're most at home. That's not to say you'll have much trouble driving on the road every now and again. They're made to last, but if you do happen to wear them out, Traxxas and other dealers offer inexpensive replacements.
The remote included with the Slash is a classic Traxxas pistol-grip 2.4GHz transmitter. The trigger offers proportional control of the throttle. This means that how far you pull the trigger determines the speed of the Slash, so you're not always running at top speed. The steering is also proportional, so it's easy to make fine adjustments.

Using the remote, you can program the electronic speed controller to operate in training mode, which limits the speed of the Slash to 50 percent. This feature makes it easier to teach kids how to drive hobby-grade RC cars, and at roughly 15 mph, the training mode is still plenty fast.
Traxxas has an optional telemetry system available for this vehicle. This system uses an iPhone or iPod attached to the remote that enables you to view the car's current speed, engine temperature and more. This system doesn't come pre-installed in most models, so it adds to the cost of your investment.
Traxxas is undoubtedly the best RC car company when it comes to customer support. Its website is home to some of the most comprehensive guides, FAQs and manuals that we found. The company offers extensive part support with detailed lists, repair instructions and diagrams to help you find and install the right piece. In case you'd prefer to interact directly with Traxxas, there is also email and phone support. With the Slash, you also get a 30-day warranty against manufacturing defects.
The Traxxas Slash 2WD is a great off-roading RC truck. Its high clearance and plush suspension may hold it back in competitive racing, but this design also makes it one of the most fun RC vehicles to drive. It's great for launching off ramps or just general off-roading, and it's still quite capable on the track. Its programmable training mode also makes this truck accessible to kids or adults who are new to the hobby. The Slash is a great value. Although its price is much higher than those of toy-grade vehicles, the durability and unrivaled reparability of the Slash means it can provide years of fun.
